4 Tips for Maintaining a Clean Workspace

As a business owner, two of your top priorities are office environment and productivity. And one of the biggest enemies of both? A messy office!

Clutter has a number of negative effects on the mind, including an increase in stress, a decrease in focus, even a decrease in working memory. Because of this, if you want to get the most out of each workday, it’s essential to maintain a clean workspace.

If your office organization is a little lacking, we’re here to help. To learn a few great tips for creating and maintaining a clean office, just keep reading!

1. Set Aside Time for Organization

Rather than expecting your staff to find time in their day to clean and organize their individual workspaces, set aside a specific window of time for cleaning. Create an office cleaning checklist that everyone must complete during this time.

If you do this every day, you shouldn’t need more than 15 minutes. However, if you want to add a little more time, this window could be used to organize virtual spaces as well.

2. Deep Clean Once a Week

While small organization and cleaning tasks should be done daily, you should also deep clean once a week. This means disinfecting work surfaces and high-traffic objects, such as doorknobs and handrails, vacuuming or mopping the floors, wiping down the windows, etc.

You have two options here. You can either go the DIY route, or hiring a commercial cleaning service. If your office is on the smaller side, cleaning it yourself is a great way to save money. Those with a larger office, on the other hand, would be better off opting for professional office cleaning.

3. Cut Down on Clutter

The more knick-knacks you have in the office, the harder it will be to clean. Small decorative items are magnets for dust. Not to mention, too many items can also be a distraction.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you should work in an ultra-austere environment. The goal should be to make yourself and your employees feel as comfortable and at home as possible.

Have decorations, invite your staff to design their personal space as they see fit. Just limit it to a few meaningful items rather than a cluttered mess.

4. Shift to Digital

Continuing on with the idea of reducing clutter, it’s wise to reduce the amount of paper in your office. And thanks to modern technology, it’s never been easier to do so!

Scan documents into your computer and use digital files whenever you can. If you have to keep physical copies for legal purposes, make it a priority to keep the files organized and out of the way.

Maintain a Clean Workspace to Maximize Productivity

If you and your employees have been getting by in a messy office, you’ll be amazed at the difference a clean workspace can make. Yes, it takes a bit of time or money, depending on the route you take, but the results are worth it!

With a clean, organized space in which to work, everyone in the office will be both happier and more productive, making your business better than ever.
