Avoiding Cabin Fever: Fun Things to do at Home

If you had a pound for every time someone shouted, “I’m bored!” in your house, you’d probably have enough money to afford a luxurious holiday…okay, so maybe that’s an exaggeration. But there is truth in the fact that when we’re confined to our homes, we enter a state of despair as we long for the freedom of the outside world. And this may be all too familiar, as we’ve just spent the past year in a worldwide lockdown, as the Covid-19 pandemic put the world on hold for the best part of eighteen months. Keeping busy at home may seem like a challenge, especially if you have children who demand fun activities. Here at We Buy Any House, we have compiled our top tips to avoid cabin fever or feeling as though being home is boring.

If you’re Feeling Creative:

Being at home is the perfect time to let your creative mind flourish! As our lives are so busy, we can often get distracted by the mundane element of real life and put aside our creative outlets that we once enjoyed so much. Why not undertake things such as:

  • Baking.
  • Planting seeds to grow things indoors such as tomatoes.
  • Brush up on your art skills with some YouTube tutorials.
  • Take up a new hobby such as knitting or crocheting.

Time to Spruce Up Your Home:

After spending so much time indoors, you may start to look at your home and think it needs a little sprucing up. While you’re indoors, why not give your home a quick revamp? A great place to start is by decluttering, as you can empty and edit each room, and make for a more spacious home. Alternatively, you can choose to rearrange furniture, repaint or depend on how much time you have- even start afresh and get painting or undertake a renovation project.

Do a Deep Clean:

Although it’s not top of your priority list, being at home may be a perfect time to conduct a deep clean of your whole house. Often, the cleaning process gets cast aside as we become too distracted by various other tasks and life in general, but perhaps time at home will clear up your diary to get round to those cleaning tasks that are overlooked, but equally as important. These include things such as:

  • Scrubbing the grout. There are plenty of good tutorials online that have hacks which are the most effective.
  • Clean the skirting boards. This is often an overlooked chore, and it’s usually surprising how dirty they get without us noticing.
  • Deep clean carpets and mattresses.
  • Clean windows and glass- this is a great time to get your conservatory glass sparkling.

Have a Movie Marathon:

With the unlimited choice of streaming services- from Netflix and Hulu to Amazon Prime, you will never run out of TV to watch. Why not indulge in a few series or a franchise of films such as Harry Potter? You can create a cosy space on the couch or in your bed, get your favourite snacks and get watching!

Spending Time Outdoors:

While you may not have full access to the outside world, you can still enjoy the space in your garden. If the weather is nice, there are so many things you can do to enjoy the company of nature, and it doesn’t have to cost a thing! Things such as gardening are a fun and educational thing to do if you have children, or alternatively, you could organise a scavenger hunt or assault course. If you’re looking for more of a lengthy project, why not build a tree house or a long-term fort? Or if you’re looking to add nature into the mix, why not start digging a pond?

Have a Boardgame Night/ Indulge in Games:

Before the world of TV, film and technology, people spent a lot of time relying on their minds to cultivate interesting games to pass the time, or, relied on board games as a way to get everyone involved in some competitive fun. Games such as Monopoly, Charades and “Guess Who?” are all popular games that pass the time without resulting in you clock watching.

Have a Party!

Who doesn’t love a good party? Why not indulge in the luxury of being at home and set up a mini party! Order in your favourite food and drinks, set up a music station and groove the night away. And best of all, you’ll won’t have to worry about the journey home!

Spending time at home doesn’t have to be a bore- it’s as fun as you make it. However, we may outgrow our current homes and need something which suits our lifestyle more. If you’re wondering “how can I sell my house fast” head over to the We Buy Any House website for more information.
