So, you’re preparing to pack up your current home and start fresh in a new one. And while it would be great if you could simply snap your fingers and be settled into your new home, you know moving isn’t quite so easy. So, you can always hire a professional removalist from Gold Coast.
To make a move as smooth as possible, staying organized is key. That’s why it’s so important to have a house moving checklist to work from along the way.
Not sure what to add to such a checklist? We’ve got you covered! Read on for a list of everything you need to do to prepare to move. We provide 1st Choice Moving services from one location to another. Our movers have been trained to handle any type of move.
Create an Inventory and Declutter
Before you begin packing your boxes, you need to go through your belongings to determine what will come with you to the new house and what won’t. Decluttering your space will not only make moving easier but will help you feel less stressed in your new home.
As you work your way through the rooms of your home, create an inventory of everything that will be coming with you. Going through everything you own might sound like a headache, but will make a huge difference if anything is lost or damaged.
Gather Packing Materials
Some items, such as tape and markers for labeling, will need to be purchased if you don’t have them handy. Moving boxes and packing paper, on the other hand, should only be purchased if it’s absolutely necessary to do so.
Before spending money on boxes, check with local stores to collect their spares. Grocery stores, for example, get shipments all the time and are more than happy to get rid of the boxes.
As for packing paper, start collecting newspapers before your move to use instead. T-shirts, towels, and other soft items can also be used to cushion valuables.
Make Travel Arrangements
If you’re using a professional moving company, you don’t have to worry about the moving truck or the transportation of your belongings, but you still have to get to the new house. For those moving to a new house in the same town, this step is easy.
Those moving out of state, however, will need to book any necessary flights, hotels, and rental cars. If you’re driving your own car, check that the insurance is up to date and get a tune-up.
Update Your Address
Within your checklist, make a list of all your memberships, subscriptions, and important places that require your address, such as your bank and the DMV. As your moving date approaches, work through this list and update your address with each.
If you’re able to transfer your utilities to your new address, do so now. Any memberships that can’t be transferred should be canceled.
Pack a First Night Box
Before the professional movers arrive, you should have all your boxes packed and ready to go (unless they’ll be packing for you). In a box separate from the rest, pack your first night essentials.
You need to stock up on bamboo toilet paper, hand soap, electronics chargers, and anything else you might need between arriving at the house and unpacking fully.
Make Moving a Breeze With This House Moving Checklist
