Healthy teeth and gums make it easy for you to eat well and enjoy delicious food. Some problems can affect your oral health, but with great care, you need to keep your teeth and gums strong as you age. Everyone wants a healthy smile, but it’s not always easy to know when your teeth are suffering. Caries, periodontal disease, cavities can present themselves in a fairly sneaky way. Avoiding certain foods which are not good for your health and also your teeth is important as it may lead to severe pain in the teeth. Some of teeth problems that should be noted and should be prevented are:

Decays:

Teeth are covered with a tough outer coating called enamel. Every day, it develops bacteria on the teeth which should be taken care of at first itself. Bacteria in plaque damage the enamel of teeth and produce acids that can cause tooth decay. Toothpaste and dental floss can prevent cavities, but once cavities are formed, the dentist at Ferntree Gully dental clinic will fix them with padding to prevent further damage. Fluoride-containing toothpaste is used to protect teeth from tooth decay. If you are at high risk of tooth decay for example, if you have a thirst due to illness or taking medication, you may need more fluoride. Your dentist or hygienist can give you a fluoride treatment during your doctor’s consultation at Ferntree gully dental clinic or they instruct you to use fluoride gel or mouthwash at home.

Periodontal disease:

A periodontal disease which is also called gum disease begins when plaque builds up under the gums along the gum line. Dental plaque causes infections that damage the gums and bones that hold the teeth in place. Mild periodontal disease can make the gums red and soft and make them easier to bleed which can be treated at Ferntree gully dental clinic. This problem, known as periodontitis, can often be fixed with daily brushing and dental floss. A more severe gingival disease called periodontal disease requires treatment by a dentist at Ferntree gully dental clinic safely and easily. If it is not treated properly it may lead to severe pain and damage to your teeth.

To prevent periodontal disease:

Brushing your teeth two times a day should be in practice. Ask your dentist for consultation and cleaning regularly. Tell your dentist about the medical condition or medication you are taking. Eat a balanced diet. Stop smoking. As it causes more damage.

Dentures:

Artificial teeth or dentures may be needed to replace severely damaged teeth or teeth lost due to periodontal disease. Removable partial dentures can be used to fill one or more missing teeth. Dentures can feel strange at first. At first, the dentist may want to see you often to make sure the denture fits. Over time, the shape of the gums may change, requiring adjustment or replacement of dentures. Be sure to have your dentist make these adjustments. You should be very careful while wearing it, as it causes pain when we drink or eat hot food. Always take it out of your mouth during sleep to prevent swelling of your gums.

Denture prevention:

Gently brush all sides with a soft brush and toothpaste containing fluoride. Replace the toothbrush every 3-4 months. Uses a small circular motion and a short back-and-forth motion. Clean the space between teeth with dental floss, pre-red dental floss, water floss or similar products.

Outlook:

Taking care and protecting teeth is always important as it plays a major role in our smile which we do confidently. Thus smiling without any problem inside and outside is good and if any problem arises in teeth it should be considered.
