Joint Pain on Palpation: The Causes

In this modern age, we are all subjected to stress from the usual hectic schedule we have to follow. In fact, studies have shown that up to 350 million adults (globally) suffer from some sort of joint pain – mainly arthritis. This pain can be caused by a variety of reasons, but the most common ones are joint wear and tear, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. With so many people being affected by joint pain like the trigger finger syndrome, it is important to know the symptoms so you can get diagnosed and start taking care of your pain as soon as possible.

However, with so many different symptoms and possible causes, it can be difficult to find a treatment for trigger finger or wrist pain. Luckily, in this article, we are going to discuss the top 5 reasons why you might be experiencing joint pain and what you can do about it. So, without any further ado, let’s get started!

You Have Joint Pain, but Don’t Know Why? Here Are the Reasons

To better assist you in determining what is causing your joint pain and how to treat it, we present to you a list of common reasons for joint pain on palpation. However, before making any assumptions as to why you are experiencing such discomfort or pain in your joints, be sure to consult with a medical professional; if possible, find one that specializes in physical therapy as they will be best equipped to prescribe corrective measures and confirm diagnoses.

1. Rheumatoid Arthritis

A debilitating chronic inflammatory disease in which a person’s own immune system attacks their joints, causing severe pain and eventual joint damage. This disease affects over one million people in America alone and is most common in women aged 20-50 years old. In addition to debilitating joint pain that can be persistent throughout a person’s day, they may also experience extreme fatigue and fever if their condition progresses significantly enough.

As your physical therapist will tell you when you seek treatment for joint pain on palpation related to rheumatoid arthritis, early detection of symptoms is key, so speak with a medical professional immediately if you suspect something might be wrong!

2. Chlamydia

While most sexually active people have been exposed to chlamydia at one point or another, only a select few ever display symptoms of infection which is what makes it so dangerous. This bacterial STD can cause an individual extreme pain in their joints and genitalia and, if left untreated, can result in permanent damage to bodily organs such as your reproductive system!

Make sure to get tested for STDs regularly; you never know when something could develop! It’s important to note that while there are antibiotics that combat chlamydia (such as azithromycin), these drugs do not actually cure an individual of their infection; it’s vital that after taking antibiotics, anyone experiencing joint pain on palpation caused by chlamydia take steps to prevent reinfection since they’re likely still vulnerable!

3. Osteoarthritis

A degenerative joint disorder is characterized by a breakdown of a joint’s cartilage and accompanying bone in a joint. As an individual gets older, they are at higher risk for developing osteoarthritis, which is why it’s important to avoid putting too much stress on your joints! For example, if you’re an athlete or very physically active try to incorporate days into your week that consist of rest and recovery from strenuous activity; doing so will not only protect your joints from injury but will help keep them functioning for longer periods; of time!

If left untreated, individuals may find themselves in a wheelchair later in life due to severe joint pain caused by osteoarthritis or with deformities related to extreme damage or destruction of a joint.

4. Ankylosing Spondylitis

A chronic inflammatory disease of joints and tissues which can cause painful inflammation in multiple areas of a person’s body, such as their spine and joints in their torso! Despite its common classification as an autoimmune disease, there is no proven association between ankylosing spondylitis and any other autoimmune disorder; however, it is similar to another condition called Reiter’s syndrome!

As with other forms of arthritis that cause joint pain on palpation and discomfort for individuals, early detection is important; if left untreated, one may end up in a wheelchair due to spinal deformities or, even worse, die from complications related to inflamed organs or tissues caused by ankylosing spondylitis! Consult with your physician right away if you suspect you may have AS.

5. Psoriatic Arthritis

A form of arthritis that shares many characteristics with other common forms such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis; one key difference is that psoriatic arthritis often affects people who have a genetic predisposition to psoriasis or other autoimmune diseases. While it is a rare form of arthritis in comparison to others, it’s still a serious condition that can cause permanent damage to your joints if left untreated for too long!

Common symptoms include swollen joints as well as extreme pain upon touch or pressure from anyone trying to feel around for bone abnormalities or tenderness in areas afflicted by psoriatic arthritis! If you suspect you may have psoriatic arthritis, make sure to consult with your doctor immediately!

Early Detection is Vital

As you can see, there are a wide variety of medical conditions which can cause joint pain and discomfort. Some of these conditions, such as osteoarthritis and chlamydia, don’t necessarily require a doctor’s care to heal; however, for many others, early detection and consultation with a physician are vital! Because most forms of arthritis share similar symptoms as one another, it’s important to be as specific as possible when consulting with your doctor about what exactly is causing your pain.
