What Could Be Leaking in Your House?

What could be leaking in your house? Water is the number one enemy of a structure. Not only does it cause structural damage to the building but it also poses risks to the homeowner. Whether or not the leak is minor or severe, water damage problems need to be fixed immediately.

When we think of leaks, we think of a toilet that is not draining. It’s a simple problem but a very common one. There are other causes of water leaks and most of them have to do with plumbing. Leaks in your plumbing can cause your kitchen and bathroom sink to become unusable. Water that seeps into basement walls and aquifers can also cause serious problems. In order to stop water damage from leaks and plumbing issues it’s important to learn how to identify them.

One sign of a leaking roof is a small puddle near the surface of your roof. This puddle would be due to water running off of your house onto the roof. This would make sense if the leak was small enough to be unnoticed. On the other hand, a large leak could be seeping into your walls and making a big mess.

Another sign of a leak is excess moisture on the exterior of your roof. If you see damp spots on your roof, there could be a plumbing issue. Your gutters could be clogged with leaves and twigs, which are all perfect sources for moisture. If you don’t have a professional dry out your gutters periodically, they will become clogged and lead to leaks.

Signs of a roof leak are not limited to the inside of your home. A skylight may seem like it’s doing a great job of keeping the air clean and moisture away from the house. Yet, a skylight that is leaking is giving water entrance to the interior of your home, through the window, where it’s collecting. Also, your garage door may be leaking. It might not seem like a big deal at first, but if you live in an area where winter cold air is combined with hot dry air, your garage door can be the main cause of your leaky air conditioner. If you’re going to address any of these problems, make sure they’re visible and also vented properly.

If you have an attic or a roof repair going on in your home, look around and see if there are any wet spots on the ceiling or on the wall under your attic. If there is water under your roofing, that means there is a leak somewhere else in your house. If you have small children in your home, they could be picking up some of the water that is seeping up through the cracks. This type of water intrusion could be due to a roof leak, a broken water pipe, or a damaged flashing gasket on the roof.

If your plumbing is also leaking, you might want to check that your garbage disposal and kitchen sink are also leaking. Usually, when a plumbing system starts leaking, it is only the beginning. If you notice water on the floor, behind wall tiles, or along basement walls, this could be the sign of

a leaky pipe somewhere in your house. Also, if you have condensation on the window panes in your house, that is a sign of leaks as well. If you’ve tried all of these methods and nothing is coming out, then it’s likely that there is a larger leak somewhere else in your house.

If you’re trying to determine what could be leaking in your house, don’t forget about the structure of your home. Homes with concrete and brick structures tend to be more at risk for leaks than those with vinyl and other kinds of siding. If your home has a basement, it’s especially important

to check it for leaks. Leaks in the basement tend to go undetected for longer periods of time because they are below the eye level. For those who have a basement, it’s imperative to get it repaired immediately. Any leak that is allowed to continue will eventually lead to a very costly repair job. Consider hiring a professional plumber in Melbourne or from what area you need to get the leak fixed as soon as possible.
