The 1965 Indo-Pak War serves as the backdrop for this fictionalized account of an Indian spy whose information contributed to India’s victory in the war. The nation could not afford another war, and its existence relied on one perilous mission to save the country. The edgy spy thriller stars Prakash Raj, Zain Khan Durrani, Harsh Chhaya, Adil Hussain, Satyadeep Mishra, Zoya Afroz, Barkha Sengupta and Karan Oberoi in prominent roles. Mukhbir – The Story of a Spy is slated to premiere on the ZEE5 platform.
In an interview with a media source, directors Shivam Nair and Jayprad Desai stated: “In India, we haven’t experimented much in the genre of ‘Historical Fiction. “Mukhbir,” a fictionalised account of an Indian spy whose information contributed to India’s victory in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, is set against this historical backdrop. At its core, “Mukhbir” is a human drama with the limbs of a spy thriller. The audience will be riveted to their screens as the plot develops, but they will be moved to tears by the character’s conflict between his heart and his duty. We expect viewers to be profoundly affected by “Mukhbir”.
Actor Prakash Raj, who plays a pivotal role in the film said, “Mukhbir” honours the valour and sacrifices of India’s unsung heroes, the spies, and I am proud to be a part of such an amazing project. Our tribute to these spies’ selfless efforts is “Mukhbir” because, despite their silent but significant work, they go unnoticed.
Adil Hussain said, “I am especially drawn to stories that move the audience and motivate them to go above and beyond the norm”. Every Indian worldwide will enjoy the tale of “Mukhbir.” Additionally, it was exciting to collaborate with the accomplished director team of Shivam Nair and Jayprad Desai, who have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in this field.
In the trailer’s opening scene, you get to see the India-Pakistan border in 1965, months before the war started. Adil Hussain (who portrays real-life IPS officer Ramkishore Negi) informs Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri that Pakistan’s acquisition of Patton Tanks is terrible news for India and that they have no agents in Pakistan to get more information.
Bhagat (Prakash Raj), an intelligence officer, says he has an “asset” that can benefit the country. A small-time burglar and spy named Kamran Baksh (Zain) are given the assignment to go undercover in Pakistan. Before it’s too late for India, he must discover what Pakistan is up to while avoiding getting caught in the process.
